I painted this in response to the tropical forest fires in Indonesia last year that destroyed so much precious habitat for endangered wildlife, especially the endangered orangutan. These forest fires are often driven by the need to expand palm oil plantations and illegally lit fires are cheaper than other land clearing methods. As well as destroying animal habitat and precious old growth forest, a health crisis was created from the smoke haze, particularly affecting children.
